Battlecrows first Octavian slithered across the dewy grass of the faire next to his trainer and in the company of some of his fellow pokemon. Beside him Miles the shiny fusion Ponyta was resplendent in his barding and carried their trainer on his back. A quick flap of his ebony black wings brought Tavi onto the Ponyta’s broad back. He coiled and lifted up his head to survey the surroundings, the Doublades who had thus far been harrying the trainers trying to approach the jousting field had all pulled back and were now gathered around the field. A voice boomed out across the field, “Those of you who have proven worthy by reaching the field step forward to face the next trial.” The cool voice cuts through the air like a razor and Tavi feels a shiver go down his spine, the fun of the faire is rapidly dissipating and he could tell Miles and his trainer felt the same way. He could not see the dais well, not with the line of floating Aegislash knights between him andBattlecrows first by Shiningstarofwinter

Tasha walked through the forest, it seemed so peaceful, so like her own ranch. The fragrant scent of flowers filling the air, swirling around the trainer and her mount. A jet black ponyta with a mane of sapphire and silver fire. The equine had long slender legs and a fine head, he snorted a little at the sound of an unfamiliar flyer. A Charmander/Fletchling circles them growling softly. Miles the ponyta stomps a hoof in warning. “Easy Miles, easy.” Says the trainer patting him on the shoulder with a chuckle, reminded of her own guardian Charmander at home. A moment later a voice rings out and the cross goes to hover near its trainer.
Tasha dismounts from Miles, and with a pat gives him permission to graze. While she pads across the grass to greet the gym leader. Gazing about joyfully at the flying and grass pokemon, laughing a little at the antics of a couple of the friendlier ones.

Octavian slithered across the dewy grass of the faire next to his trainer and in the company of some of his fellow pokemon. He could not see the dais well, not with the line of floating Aegislash knights between him and the podium. But he did not need to see much, next to the dark knight sat a crying Gardivour, she was dressed in robes of purple, tears streaming down her face. She reminded Tavi of his half sister, the sweet little baby Grace, and or Graces mother Reo, called queen Reo on her own ranch for her beauty and elegant bearing.
He fixed a glare on the line of Aegislash Knights and felt a stirring in his blood, this was what he had been trained for, bred for even, born for. The blood of dragons, the fiery son on the ranch’s great guardian. He dearly hoped that his trainer would choose him for this battle beneath him Miles stomped a hoof, likely feeling the same way.
Riding Miles forward Tasha doffed the hood from her cloak, letting it fall back across her shoulders. The trainer was short, and blond with elven like almond eyes, her honey gold brown hair falling in waves to form ringlets at its tips. Her green eyes sparkled with an inner fire.
“I accept your challenge, if you will accept my own. Two on two, the best my ranch can offer against the finest of your knights.” She said coldly.
The Black Knight seemed amused by the challenge, and he drummed his gauntleted fingers against his chair as he considered it. Then laughter exploded from his chest. It was not a joyful sound, and as it rang around the field he raised a hand to point a finger at the trainer. “I like this one, she has spirit, and I cannot fault her courage, her good sense perhaps, but not her courage.”
“Step forward into the ring fiery one and send forth your two Champions. We shall see how well you can back your words with action.” The Black Knight gestured to two of the Aegislash and they floated forward onto the field shifting from the shield form they had held around the dais into a more combat ready blade form. One of the two had a blade of Icy blue that sparkled and seemed to chill the air around it, a glowing ghostly aura of cold emanating from it. The other possessed a ruddy orange blade with small wings that unfurled as it floated forward.
Tasha guided Miles forward and dismounted from the Ponyta. “I chose to represent both myself and my ranch, Gais Octavian Battlecrow. “
Flaring his wings Tavi entered the battle field to hover at his starting position. Electricity started to crackle around his horn and fin like ears. His black wings beating strong and steady as he waited to see who his Trainer would send out to join him.
The Knight snorted. “He seems a might small to be a champion, but no matter, name your second.”
Strider who was perched upon Tasha’s shoulders hissed at the Knight and flared his brightly colored wings.
“Easy Strider, perhaps next time.” The murkrow grumbled but folded his wings, though he continued to eye the Knight disdainfully. “Miles to go before I sleep, you shall be my second representative on the field this day.” Miles shook his mane and thundered eagerly into the ring. He paused on his mark and reared up to paw at the air, trumpeting his own challenge before come down to stomp the ground.
A ghostly referee raised his flags. “Let the match begin!” rang out as the referee dropped his flags downwards.
Tavi beat his wings rising higher over the field, one of the Aegislash, the orangey one with its little wings rose with him, while on the ground Miles traded fiery blasts for the Aegislash’s bone chilling ones. Tavi was surprised when he saw the blade use what appeared to be Ice beam on his friend, it had not occurred to him that these minions of the Dark Knight might be fusions themselves. And he looked more closely at the one that he was facing, and he decided to test something, if what he suspected was true then this would be more effective than usual, on the blade Pokemon. He had never tried this before but he let the electricity that had been crackling over his horn and frills strengthen then in a diving rush he released it in a wave aimed at the Aegislash when he was close. He had the satisfaction of watching the electricity spark along the blade and the small wings spasm and falter. It was not enough to knock the creature out of the sky, mores the pity. But it did seem to work well and to slow its movements.
A shrill caw from Strider caught his attention; the other Aegislash had frozen one of Miles hooves to ground and was harrying the young equine every time he tried to melt the shackling ice. Tavi dove at the glowing blade, closing his eyes momentarily right before impact as he slammed it with his tail. The flame on his tail flared and then dimmed as a bone chilling cold swept over his as the Aegislash retaliated. Ice was one of the few types Octavian was still weak against and he could feel his wings slowing. And then something changed, a wave of heat, first weak and unsteady but quickly gaining power swept over him, and to his surprise it was answered by a wave of heat rising from his own core.
Tasha and Strider gaped at the two, they had been worried first when Miles had been trapped and then when Tavi’s wing beats had slowed, but neither of them had expected the waves of heat pouring off the two pokemon. The waves of heat, practically visible beat against the Aegislash’s steel forcing them back at least for the moment. When the waves heat subsided the ice around Miles hoof was completely gone, the ground around it steaming slightly, and Tavi rose to the air, his wing beats steady once again. He took position just over Miles, “Lets fight together this time shall we friend?” The black stallion nodded.
Later back at the ranch Strider recounted the tale to the delight of those listening. Grace fanned her wing excitedly at the story of her older brother. “Tavi dove at an Ice fusion Aegislash! Wow!” The little blue haired ralts was now hovering in her excitement. Odette fluttered near her, just as excited and perhaps more proud as Octavian was her father. “My dad’s awesome!” she crowed beating her cloud like wings proudly. “Tell us more, please Strider!” They both cozened wanting to hear the whole tale.
When Strider got to the part where Miles and Octavian began to heat up the youngsters eyes were sparkling. “And then they both began to glow with an inner light, heat pouring off them in waves, the ice around Miles’s hoof began to steam and stream away. The ghost blade knights were forced to back away from the great heat.” Strider paused dramatically.
Grace and Odette watched him, waiting for him to finish the tale, when he did not Grace spoke up. “And then what happened!” “Did they win?” Piped in Odette, hopefully.
“Well.” Said Strider with a grin, “Perhaps you should ask them yourself.” He cawed happily gesturing with a wing towards the open door. Grace turned to smile at her brother while Odette let out a happy cry of “Daddy!” and flew to coil around Octavian who had just entered with Miles.
